Every successful organization has thinkers, planners, and technical analysts. I solve technical issues and integrate heterogeneous systems. I have migrated some 35+ company data files from SBT to Sage Pro and then to Sage 300. I have migrated 5, 15, and 75 user SBT systems to ALERE accounting and to ALERE accounting and manufacturing. Each time, migration starts Friday close of Business (COB) and finishes for Monday start of business (SOB) for “go live”. I have interfaced Sage Pro Job cost to be able to import time data from ADP, and from Kronos job card systems. I have enhanced SBT, Sage Pro, and ALERE menus and systems, as well as interfaced Sage Pro with a Microsoft ACCESS film processing system.
Two of my most successful achievements have been migrating data from GoldMine to Sage CRM for some 25 users, and migrating Act data to Sage CRM for 15 users. With Sage CRM, the integration to Sage 300, and to each person’s Outlook email, is seamless. One of my most difficult, but rewarding tasks, was the integration from McGraw-Hill Dodge construction website data into SAGE CRM. Now, my customer has daily knowledge of real time regional project events synchronized with their internal company’s Sage CRM and Outlook email sales activity./p>

I am a certified Sage 300 consultant, and have worked with Sage and other accounting software for over 20 years, focusing on distribution and manufacturing. From my office in California, I have worked with clients across the country and around the world.
Accounting and software was not my first calling. Until 20 years ago, I was a full time musician. Life has a funny way of shifting our priorities, and soon I was actively involved in Tax Preparation, and became an Enrolled Agent, certified by the IRS to prepare any tax return and defend tax payers in audit. I then entered the world of accounting software, where I quickly discovered a way to implement the creativity I enjoyed as a musician.
Whether it’s training, procedures, new software, modifications, better reporting or all of the above, I enjoy working with people to discover where the core issues lie, and finding an elegant path to resolution. After high school I took a job with a bank and came into contact with both small and mid-size business owners. After talking to them, I realized that I had an interest in accounting. I decided that I wanted to get a degree in accounting, secure a job with what was then known as a Big Eight accounting firm and finally to become a CPA. I achieved all 3 goals. Prior to getting into the software business, I spent over 20 years as a CFO for several companies both large and small.
These many years provided me with the expertise to determine what tools, methods, and processes are needed to have a positive effect on their bottom line. Helping the business owner in today’s competitive market requires more efficient, accurate, and up-to-date methods of tracking not only their accounting, but also their operations. I enjoy assisting clients in determining what their company is missing, in finding and filling that need, and in analyzing the information it provides. Karen Smart has been a Sage 300 ERP consultant, a Sage CRM consultant, and a Sage HRMS consultant for almost two decades. Combined with the other partners of Tandem Technologies we have been Sage partners for over 25 years.
Karen is a Sage Certified Trainer for Sage 300 ERP and Sage CRM with credentials to provide training for new Sage 300 ERP and Sage CRM clients, as well as consultants that may need training for their staff. Until Sage Pro’s retirement in March, Karen was an authorized Sage Training Partner for project management and job costing modules through Sage University.

Call me an extroverted accountant, but one of the things I enjoy most is working with people that are responsible for the accounting, but also the business operations. No three year old ever told their parents they wanted to work in the field of computerized business systems. I did, however, have a fantastic accounting professor in college (1999) who sparked my interest in the field of accounting and technology. My love for interacting with people came naturally.
Having set up hundreds of business accounting and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, I found that people agree there has to be a significant value in the solutions and services that I provide. The best way to discover that value is to ask questions and actively listen. Whether that is increased profits, better access to data or enhanced productivity amongst the systems users; it is the people that make the business a success. I am passionate about become a true working partner with my clients. I want to learn how each client’s business operates, so I can provide good advice, support, and strategic training. I am also passionate about our partnership with the other accounting experts in Tandem Technologies. I represent the Central Pennsylvania marketplace with an emphasis on Lancaster, Harrisburg, and York, PA. While each of us runs our own businesses, our partnership builds on our individual talents and areas of expertise. Most importantly, we all have the same focus on client satisfaction.
I got involved in our business because my husband wanted to start an IT business. While I had no knowledge of computers, I did know how to do accounting using old fashioned ledger books! Early in our business we brought on computerized accounting so my degree and our business became relevant and strong!
I am known professionally for helping clients solve problems. Regardless if it is advise on what software to purchase, or how to make better use of what they are using, custom reports, new modules, my goal is to help them be productive and their accounting installation accurate and up to date. I want clients to become independent based on what I teach them. If they want to be dependent on someone and not grow and learn, it might not be a good fit.
I think clients would say I am patient and respond quickly to their needs. I support a wide variety of different versions of software and diverse business models.
Personally, I am passionate about mission work, whether I am volunteering at a local shelter, feeding the homeless and preparing meals locally, or traveling to a state where there was a recent disaster, I love helping others. During these trips I have met many wonderful people that have been lifelong friends. I can talk for hours about my mission experiences.
If I am not working, I would prefer to be at our beach house in DE. If that is not possible due to other commitments, you can usually find me doing something with family or friends.

When the economy went sour about 10 years ago, my direct sell business took a large hit. With my husband and I raising three small children, it was time to get back into the “regular” workforce. As an AVON Representative and Advanced Unit Leader, I enjoyed working with clients and training my down line. I was determined to find a position that allowed me to go back into a positon that allowed me to continue. I heard there was a company looking for a part-time administrative assistant and customer service representative; that was six years ago.
